WOW Story: Sidewalk Chalk and a Sense of Belonging

Sometimes, creating a WOW moment doesn’t require big gestures—just a bucket of chalk and a welcoming spirit.

At our Belfair branch, the team decided to participate in a cheerful initiative from our special events team: “chalk the walk.” They placed a bucket of sidewalk chalk outside, inviting members to draw, doodle, and brighten up the walkway. The response was immediate and joyful.

Children drew sunshine, soccer balls, and rainbows. Adults added uplifting messages. The once-plain sidewalk became a living gallery of art, connection, and shared delight. It transformed the entrance into something special—a place where people smiled even before stepping inside.

One longtime member summed it up perfectly: “You don’t just talk about being involved—you live it. I love how you bring joy not just inside the branch, but outside too.”

This small act reminded us that community is built with little moments of joy and inclusion.
