Peninsula Debit Cards

You’ll receive a free debit card with your Vista Checking account, and here are some basics to help you get the most out of your card and keep your account secure:

To activate your card, simply call 866.985.2273 from the home phone number listed on your account. The system agent will verify that the phone number that you are calling from matches up with the one you have previously provided.***

To select a PIN, call 866.985.2273 from the home phone number listed on your account and follow the prompts to set your PIN to a new 4 digit number of your choice. Or stay on the line after you activate your card (see step above).

If your debit card has been lost or stolen, or if your account seems to be reflecting purchases/transactions not made by you, it’s important that you immediately contact Peninsula Credit Union. Call us at 800.426.1601. After hours, the automated attendant will walk you through how to reach our fraud detection service.

Yes! In fact, our members swipe their cards an average of 45 times a month.

The monthly fee is associated with the benefits that come with the Basic and Premium accounts, such as half-off a safe deposit box rental, free cashier’s checks, and a box of free checks a year. We also charge a $3.00 monthly maintenance fee for the regular maintenance we perform on every checking account, such as sending out monthly statements and tax documents, posting direct deposits and automatic withdrawals, and other routine tasks necessary to keep your account running. We waive the monthly maintenance fee if you simply sign up for electronic statements.

MONEY MINUTE TIP - Debit or Credit?

Have you ever wondered what the difference is when the store clerk asks “Debit or Credit?”

When you choose debit, you enter your PIN, Money for the transaction comes out of your account immediately. And many merchants allow you to get cash back at the register.

When you select Credit however, you sign a receipt. A hold is put on your money for the transaction amount which usually goes away in a day or two. And normally you can’t get cash back when you select credit.

One last thing to remember, when you say “credit” when using your debit card, it is not the same thing as using a credit card. Your debit card is tied to your checking account, which is your money. A Credit card is a line of credit, meaning your institution is lending you the money, and you will have to pay it back.

**DIVIDENDS are not paid on checking accounts with the exception of the Vista Checking Accounts as described above. DIVIDENDS are declared and paid monthly and calculated on the average daily balance. To earn the higher listed Vista dividend on the first $10,000 in the account, you must use your cash/check (debit) card for 15 purchase transactions (minimum of $5 each) and be enrolled in e- statements. For qualification purposes, a month is defined as the last day of the month to the day before the last day of the next month. APY calculated and shown on the periodic statements is based on the dividend limitations shown above. Rates subject to change and fees affect earnings.

***If the phone number you’re calling from matches the number we have on record for your, the card will be activated. If you are calling from a different phone number than what is on your account, you will need to provide the last 4 digits of your Social Security number for verification.
