WOW Story: The Magic of Credit Unions

A member sitting at a desk and smiling

When financial hardship collides with family responsibility, many people are left feeling hopeless. That was the case for one of our Shelton members, who reached out in a moment of overwhelming stress. He had fallen behind on his auto loan payments with PCU, was managing the rising cost of living, and was also the primary caregiver for his 83-year-old mother. Life had stacked the odds against him.

Charlie received an email from Trena in Loss Prevention, who was already exploring how we could help. Instead of going the traditional route with a loan modification, Trena saw a bigger opportunity—a way to improve this member’s entire financial picture. She proposed an Auto Loan Consolidation that would not only address the delinquent loan but also bring together several credit card debts under a single, more manageable payment plan.

The result? A monthly savings of $500. More than just money in his pocket, this gave him breathing room, hope, and a sense that someone was truly in his corner. As he left the branch, visibly emotional, he reflected on the call he’d received with the good news: That’s the magic of credit unions!
