Reflecting on 90 Years: Stories, Service, and Celebration at Our Annual Meeting

Jim Morrell, CEO, and John Bolender, Board Chair, present a check to Sue Barnard, retiring board member

On Saturday, March 22, 2025, Peninsula Credit Union held our 2025 Annual Meeting—a heartfelt celebration of our rich history, incredible members, and enduring commitment to community. As we celebrate 90 years of service, this event was a meaningful reminder of the values that continue to guide us.

Inspiring Member Stories
Some of the most touching moments came directly from our members.
Larry, who has been banking with Peninsula since 1962, shared how our staff has helped him through the years with kindness, consistency, and care. His story reminded us of the trust we work to earn and maintain every day.
Sue, a member for over 20 years, spoke about how the credit union difference has supported her family’s financial stability and growth over time. We’re honored to be part of her journey.Larry, who has been banking with Peninsula since 1962, shared how our staff has helped him through the years with kindness, consistency, and care. Tony, a newer member from our Port Townsend branch, drove all the way to Shelton to attend the meeting, sharing his experience with the team that has helped him build savings and prepare financially for an upcoming hunting trip.

Welcoming New Leadership
We are pleased to welcome two new board members: Claudia Suastegui and Mendy Harlow. Their insights and dedication to our community will help shape Peninsula Credit Union’s future as we continue to grow.

Honoring Dedicated Service
We also recognized the contributions of two retiring board members.
Sue Barnard was presented with a Certificate of Appreciation, a donation made in her name to Community Lifeline, and a resolution naming her as an Emeritus Board Member.
Lane Johnson will also receive a Certificate of Appreciation and a donation made in his name to the Mason General Hospital Foundation.

A Thoughtful and Welcoming Atmosphere
The event was beautifully enhanced by floral arrangements from House Flowers and a delightful spread of Mexican pastries provided by Don Enrique’s Bakery, both local businesses in Shelton. These small details helped create a warm and welcoming environment for all attendees.

Looking Back and Looking Ahead
Board Chair John Bolender offered an impactful look at Peninsula’s 90-year history, highlighting our legacy of service and community. CEO Jim Morrell looked to the future, expressing enthusiasm for what lies ahead:

“We’re just as excited for the next 90+ years as we are for the 90 we’ve celebrated so far.”

Staff also shared stories of the ways we’ve supported members throughout the year, particularly our local Hispanic community, reinforcing the importance of inclusion and meaningful member service.

A Legacy of People Helping People
Our Annual Meeting reflected the very heart of Peninsula Credit Union—members first, community always, and a deep belief in the power of cooperative finance. Thank you to everyone who attended and continues to be part of our story.

We look forward to building the next chapter with you.
